Patient instruction before and after TIF (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) procedure.


GENERAL INSTRUCTION: 

DO NOT TAKE any ASPIRIN or ASPIRIN-CONTAINING MEDICATIONS and FISH OIL 7-10 days before your test. These medications occasionally promote internal bleeding if a biopsy and/or polypectomy (removal of a polyp) is done during your colonoscopy. Arthritis pain relief medication should not be taken 7 days before the test, including: MOTRIN, ADVIL, IBUPROFEN, INDOCIN, FELDENE or VOLTAREN. COUMADIN or WARFARIN should be withheld for 3-4 days. Tylenol or acetaminophen-containing pain relievers are alright to take. If you are taking any medications or vitamins containing IRON, please stop these at least one week (7 days) prior to your procedure.   Avoid foods containing small seeds for 3 days prior to the procedure.

THE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE: 

Clear liquid diet all day long. Water, apple juice, broth, Jell-O, cranberry juice (anything you can see through) may be included. Stay away from milk and pulpy juices; avoid coffee, tea and red Jell-O. 

Start drinking the first half of MoviPrep or SUPREP at 5:00 pm, 8 oz. every 15 minutes for four doses in one hour. Then drink additional clear liquids through the evening until midnight. 

THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE: 

Drink the second half of MoviPrep or SUPREP at 5:00 am, 8 oz. every 15 mimutes for four doses in one hour. 

REMEMBER, DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING BY MOUTH. However, you should take your morning dose of blood pressure medications, if you require, with small sips of water before coming to the procedure facility. 

If your procedure is to be done at the hospital, you must check into Outpatient Registration one hour before your procedure time. Please take all of your insurance information with you. 

You must make arrangements for transportation home: someone who will wait for you, or someone who can be called to pick you up. You will be given medication that will impair your judgment. Should you have any questions, please call our office. 

If you are scheduled at Mission Hospital, call 949-364-1400 and ask for Admitting Department for preregistration ASAP.

Tylenol or acetaminophen-containing pain relievers are alright to take.

Have nothing to eat or drink after midnight, not even water. (Exception: Please take prescribed blood pressure medications with small sips of water.)

You MUST have someone to drive you home from the hospital as you WILL be drowsy from the medications given during the procedure.

If your procedure is scheduled at the hospital, please check into outpatient registration one hour before your scheduled time.
